The Friends of Rochester Churchfields and Esplanade (FoRCE) are creating an amazing sensory garden for visitors of all ages and abilities as a tribute to local non-militant suffragist Vera Conway Gordon who lived opposite the garden which is located between Rochester Castle and the river.

The planting of the second bed in the Suffrage Sensory Garden is now complete and the above recent aerial image photo shows that the first bed (to the top of the image) is complete and maturing nicely, as is the upper half of the second bed (to the left of the image), and the lower half of the second bed has now been planted up with a variety of beautiful sensory plants.
The FoRCE volunteers have also started clearing the third bed (to the right of the image) and look forward to making progress over the next few months.
The garden is a haven for bees and butterflies and visitors can immerse themselves in the captivating sights, sounds, and scents that fill the air. Visitors are encouraged to pick a small selection of the garden’s herbs such as rosemary, oregano, thyme, or chives, but are advised only to gather what they are confident is edible.
New volunteers are always very welcome at one of the FoRCE’s gardening sessions. For more information click here to visit their website.
