Seven of Medway’s much-loved parks have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as among the best in the United Kingdom and around the world.

Riverside Country Park in Rainham, Capstone Farm Country Park in Gillingham, Great Lines Heritage Park in Gillingham, The Vines in Rochester, Broomhill Park in Strood , Hillyfields Community Park in Gillingham and Gillingham Park have received the esteemed Green Flag Award on Tuesday, 16 July.

Each of the seven award winning parks have something different to offer residents and visitors, from lakes, military history, woodlands, views of the River Medway and much more. Medway’s parks and countryside are maintained all year round to make sure that residents can enjoy them throughout the year.

A Green Flag Award is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities available to residents and visitors. It also honours the many staff and volunteers who go above and beyond to maintain the high standards required by the Green Flag Award.  We’re extremely proud.

Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Community Services Cllr Howard Doe said: “It is great news that our parks have been recognised for another year. We’re extremely proud that seven of our beautifully maintained parks have been given the prestigious award. I would like to thank our volunteers and contractor Medway Norse who work tirelessly to help council staff maintain the parks to such a high standard.”

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “It’s fantastic that we have more Green Flag Awards in the UK than ever before, joined this year by 131 International winners.

“Each flag honours the thousands of staff and volunteers who work tirelessly to maintain the high standards demanded by the Green Flag Award. We congratulate each and every winner on their fantastic achievement.”
